Skin-Barrier Deficiency

What is the main purpose of our skin?  The answer is to protect us from external factors.   But when you have damaged skin, it lets in allergens, bacteria, and chemicals amongst many other things and lets out important lipids and moisture needed to have healthy skin.

There are many reasons a dog can have Skin Barrier Deficiency either due to genetic defects in the skin or immune system as well as internal and external stresses. Some of the internal stresses can be hormones, pregnancy, poor diet, medications, and vaccines. External stresses can be poor skin care, sun damage, harsh grooming products, external parasite medications and the list goes on.

So how can we help a dog with Skin Barrier Deficiency? Try these methods before visiting your vet.  It might save you some money.

Step 1:  Adjust your dog’s diet to help heal from the inside out.   Common problems could be food allergies, lack of fatty oils, or lack of enzymes and microbials for good digestion and vitamin absorption.

Step 2:  Cleanse and maintain a clean skin and coat.  Pure Paws has introduced the Pure Paws Forte Line to repair skin and coat and strengthen coat.  Forte contains Keratin, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin B5, Collagen and Allantoin. All of these ingredients work to help heal and replenish the lipids and proteins needed to have strong healthy skin and coat. Make sure to completely rinse the shampoo off of the coat.

Step 3:  Work to eliminate any yeast growth.  More than 20 species of Candida, or yeast, exists and live on the surface of our body and our dog’s.  These yeast fungi do not usually cause a problem unless we get a break in the skin.  When the dog scratches, it breaks and irritates the skin, then we have problems with yeast.   Pure Paws BioEnzymatic Spray works to attack proteins to convert them to something new that can be washed away.  Since Yeast is a protein, it has been found to work effectively on controlling and eliminating yeast.  It works great on staining on the coat too.

Step 4:  Eliminate bacteria off of the skin that can cause infection and not allow the skin to heal.  New research has shown that when bacteria is exposed to a microbe-slaying silver solution, the germs an “go-zombie”, wiping out their living compatriots even after death.  The results may explain silver’s long-lasting antibacterial power.  Pure Paws Colloidal Silver is effective in healing Hot Spots, Burns, Cuts, Rashes, Acne and more.  It works to disable the enzyme that metabolizes oxygen in bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Step 4:  Be consistent in the application of these products and maintain a clean coat.  You will soon find that the itching is reduced and eventually eliminated.  Getting your dog’s skin in healthy shape is not an overnight process, but it can be effectively controlled and eliminated without drugs and expensive vet visits.  If you find that you cannot eliminate the problem with theses products on your own, then please consult your veterinarian.

We all try our best to give our dogs the best we can. If your dog suffers from constant rashes, hot spots and other skin issues, give the skin the nutrients it needs to heal with Pure Paws Products in conjunction with a healthy diet to make Skin Barrier Deficiency a thing of the past.
